This Day in History

Nov 16, 1688- Ann Goody Glover was hanged as a witch by the Pilgrims in Boston.  Glover had been sent to Barbados by Cromwell as a slave.  She later went to Boston with her daughter and worked as a laundress in a wealthy home.  The fear of Catholicism led to her being branded as a witch by one of the children, and at her trial she was told to recite the Lord’s Prayer which she did in Irish because she didn’t speak English which served as proof of her evil.
