On May 26, 1650 Oliver Cromwell left Ireland after a bloody campaign, leaving his son-in-law in charge.

On May 26, 1798 the Rebellion began in Wexford after the rebels were defeated in Co Meath.

The first publication of “Dracula” by Bram Stoker in Dublin was published on May 26th.
