This Day in Irish History

Dec. 31, 1602- Donall Cam O’Sullivan of Beare, Co Cork, set out on his 200 mile journey from Glengariff to Ulster, seeking revenge in Ulster for the defeat of the Irish at Kinsale.  He set out with 1,000 followers (400 fighters and 600 women, children and elderly).  Fifteen days later, he found sanctuary at Leitrim Castle with only thirty five survivors, including one woman.  The others had either been killed or died from starvation or exposure.
