St. Kevin’s Cell

There is a tiny rise in the cliffs at Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, where St. Kevin would go during Lent to remove himself from the world.  This is called St. Kevin’s Cell.  It is a very small space and the saint had to stick one arm out of the window to pray.  One day a blackbird laid an egg in his hand.  Kevin, loving birds, left his hand extended and remained kneeling until the egg hatched and the bird was able to fly on its own.
