Sean Mac Bride

Sean Mac Bride is the only person to have been awarded both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Lenin Peace Prize.  MacBride served in the IRA during the War of Independence (1919-21) after which he became a barrister, specializing in defending former IRA associates.  He entered Parliament in 1946 but lost his seat after opposing government opposition to a new IRA campaign against the North of Ireland.  He became active in human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and acted as secretary general for West Africa.
