The Rising of 1798 began in Dublin on May 23 led by Wolfe Tone, Thomas Emmett and Edward Fitzgerald. The rebellion was short lived and the last important battle took place at Vinegar Hill when the rebels faced the might of the British Army with pikes and axes.
