Richard Croker was born in Blackrock, Co Cork in 1841. He rose to prominence in New York politics by becoming Boss of Tammany Hall and dominated Democratic politics for 20 yrs. After surviving a corruption scandal, he returned to Ireland a wealthy man in 1903.
