King Henry II made a gift of Ireland to his favorite son John in the 12 Century.  When John went to Ireland, he alienated everyone on the island by expelling Lords, spreading rumors and confiscating lands.  Before leaving, he did do some good by minting the first coins that bore the Harp and introducing traveling judges and trial by jury.
