James Hobin – Original White House Designer

In 1792, after winning a competition held by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, James Hoban, a native of  Kilkenny, was chosen as the designer of the original White House.  When this was burned during the War of 1812, he oversaw the restoration afterward.
