Horses in Ireland, like cats, dogs and seals were thought to be able to speak and some people were thought to be able to tame horses by speaking to them (usually Travelers). According to superstition, horses were thought to be susceptible to fairy and supernatural influences.  A dream about a horse was said to be lucky and to remove a horse’s shoes would bring bad luck.
