Belfast City Council has confirmed that Lennox, the mixed pit bull-terrier, has been put to sleep. In spite of worldwide protests and offers of relocating the family pet of the Barnes family in Belfast, the council had him euthanized because Great Britain has a ban against pit bulls.

A new cross-border intergovernmental body is expected to be set up. There will be an equal number of ministers from north and south and will meet in Stormont and Leinster House. This was envisioned in the Peace Treaty and is just now coming about.

Tourism Ireland says it is expecting 300,000 visitors in 2013 for ‘The Gathering.’ They are encouraging the Irish diaspora and others to visit and enjoy the many interesting events that are planned throughout the year. Many celebrities have pledged their support including Liam Neeson and Maeve Binchey.

Fordan University Law School will hold a “Famine Tribunal” on October 20 which will discuss the Irish Famine (Great Hunger). The object is to assess the impact of this event in history on the population, cultural and physiological legacies in a legal framework.

The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Martin has announced plans for a “Certificate of Irish Heritage” for those whose ancestry goes further back than grandparents and are not eligible for citizenship. This certificate would declare their ancestry and enable them to take advantage of certain discounts.
