A vial of blood belonging to Pope John Paul ll has been stolen from the church of San Pietro. The Pope’s secretary Cardinal Dzuvey had donated the blood in a reliquary with a small amount of the Pope’s blood to the church.

The New York Fire Department (FDNY) Bravest Boxing Club will take on Ireland’s  National Police Force’s Garda Boxing Club with 12 three-round matches to benefit wounded veterans. 2014 City of Culture

Limerick has been named a City Of Culture for 2014.  There will be twelve months of festivals and events.  History and heritage will be displayed in the newly renovated Heritage Centre which tells the tales of pre-Celtic Ireland and introduces stone circles, megalithic tombs and ancient dwellings.

Fr. Alec Reid

Fr. Alec Reid of Belfast died on Nov 24.  He was 84 yrs. old and a key player in negotiations with  the IRA which eventually led to the end of the IRA campaign.
