June 26- 50th anniversary of JFK’s visit to Ireland- the first US president to do so as he was also the first head of state to attend a Remembrance Ceremony at Arbour Hill, the burial place of many Irish heroes, including fourteen of the leaders of the Easter Rising.  He was impressed with the drills of the cadets and expressed a wish that something like that could be done at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery.  Five months later these cadets stood at his graveside, the first foreign guard of honor to do so at the grave of an American president.
