Annual Puck Fair

The annual Puck Fair is held on Aug 10, 11, 12 in Killorglin, Co Kerry when a goat is chosen to be King of the fair.  The theory being that in the time of Oliver Cromwell when his “Roundheads” were pillaging they came upon a herd of goats.  The herd dispensed and all ran into the mountains except one who escaped to the town.  When the townspeople saw the exhausted goat they knew there was danger and they prepared for the attack.  To honor the goat they decided to hold a festival.  A young girl is chosen” queen” and she crowns the goat “King” on the last day of the fair        .
