Conway Education Centre

Fr. Des Wilson and a group of community leaders established one floor of the Conway Mill to be devoted to education. Since then, the Education Centre has evolved to offer a host of adult and youth educational, training and cultural opportunities. Learn more about the many initiatives of the Centre HERE.
Mary Mannion Merit Grant

The educational merit grant program for the development of History, English and Math for adult students attending Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) was named the Mary Mannion Merit Grant in honor of Mary’s lifetime commitment to teaching. This educational assistance grant was established in collaboration with the Conway Education Centre in West Belfast, Northern Ireland to help students, aged 19 years and older who have not completed secondary education, to achieve their General Course Secondary Education Certificate (GCSE). This is comparable to our General Education Diploma (GED) in the US.
Mary Mannion is a retired educator and is active in Pittsburgh’s Irish-American community. She is also a member of the Irish American Unity Conference. She served many years on Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Parade Committee and the Irish Society for Education and Charity.
