Flag of Ireland Fact

Since the 16th Century the gold harp on a blue field was the flag of Ireland.  The United Irishmen changed the background to green, and it was carried during the rebellion of 1798 — and sometimes had the motto ‘Erin go Bragh’ included below the harp.  It was used until the collapse of the Parliamentary Party in 1918.
