Bridget Wren of Co. Kerry (1917-2008) was known as the ‘Queen of Baluchistan.’ She attended Oxford University where she met and married the eldest son of the Prime Minister of Baluchistan (a disputed territory of Pakistan). In Pakistan’s first free election she won a seat at the National Assembly and founded Pakistan’s first women’s association and family planning and fought to defend Baluchistan’s autonomous rights from being eroded by Pakistan. She promoted education and literacy rights for women. Her son became Pakistan’s first ambassador to the U.S.
