All over the world people will be dressing in Edwardian costumes to celebrate James Joyce’s novel, ‘Ulysess’.  Readings from the book will continue throughout the day while people travel about to relive the events in the novel which took place all on the same day in Dublin.  Joyce wanted to immortalize the people of Dublin and make the city the center of the universe.  Joyce chose this day because it was the day on which he and his wife, Nora Barnacle, first ‘walked out’.

It took 17 years to complete the novel. The novel consists of 265,000 words. The book was banned in the U.S. The first part of the book was written in Trieste. The hero of the book is named Leopold Bloom.
