Olympics Trivia

The first Irish winner of a medal at the Olympics was Jack B. Yeats – brother of Author William B. Yeats – in 1924. He won a silver medal for his painting ‘The Liffey Swim’ in the arts and culture category which has since been discontinued.

Ireland has won a total of 23 medals in the Summer Olympics since 1924, boxing having the highest number with a total of 12 — one gold, four silver and seven bronze.
